As sure as the bluebirds sing, and the daffodils bloom, you can count on the 36th Annual Spring Southern Antiques & Collectibles Club Show on March 8 and 9, 2008 to be a fore runner announcing the change of the seasons.
The hard work on the club members who volunteer for this annual event, held in the Medford National Guard Armory, will turn the building into rooms with sparkling antiques that will put the spring back into the steps of winter doldrums patrons. Knowing full well how important the evaluation and identification of each treasured piece is to collectors, the show will feature an Identification Booth. Experts will be present all during the show to share their knowledge with show patrons. As the spring warms the waters of the rivers and lakes that abound in the beautiful Rogue River valley, it becomes even more important that the youth of Jackson County are water-proofed. This has long been the goal of the Medford Parks and Recreation Department. This goal combined with the club's educational goals has given realization to Swimming Scholarships. The $3.00 per item donations will be taken at the booth by the City Parks personnel to enter a special fund that last year saw almost 120 children learn to float and dog paddle in the water safety lessons given at Hawthorne Park. Two rooms of the armory are devoted to the Skills of Yesterday artisans who will be demonstrating spinning, weaving, tatting, lace-making and quilting. You'll recognize which two rooms by the walls adorned with beautiful, colorful, hand-made quilts. The main lobby features the Hall of Restoration. Life's Little Treasures has a full equipped doll hospital ready to restore life to patrons' childhood dolls and bears. The do every type of surgery from attaching limbs, cosmetic painting of ceramic faces to wigs. Photo restoration using modern techniques will show examples of electronic marvels that can remove the unwanted articles or include people who weren't at the actual shoot. Glass repair people will be demonstrating their skills in mending and grinding to bring back the beauty of the original glassware. Genealogical Society will assist patrons in tracing family history to authenticate the handed down legends concerning the old heirloom items. Thousands of antiques and collectibles will be found Public Events Room. Dealers from all over the West Coast have traveled to the show bringing everything from antique furniture to kitchen primitives, glassware to granite ware, garden furniture to fruit box labels. Well arranged booths, polished and shining, await the browsing public. Friendly dealers greet all with a smile and an invitation to stay a while. Quality Catering restaurant is open during the public hours on both days. Their menu features lunch and dining favorites including luscious pies. The waiters are boys and parents from Cub Scout Pack 110, donations and tips are used to take the boys to Summer Camp, finance the Soap Box Derby and other troop projects.
